Spectral Hemorrhage was recorded in Bellingham and Seattle 2017-2018. It’s been one of my favorite recording projects, right after the last big Mhostly Ghostly suite, Ghostly. We really liked this long, multi-part, suite format. It felt like playing and recording a whole album in one song. Of course, that came along with the challenge of mixing it as a whole album contained in a single song. Gain staging across sections, and linking those sections together was one of the biggest technical hurdles to overcome. Each instrument plays a very different role in each part, and the mix has to reflect that, and highlight the mood each instrument and section creates. Speaking of instruments, that was the next biggest challenge; Mhostly Ghostly consisted of FOUR guitars, three vocalists, one bass guitar, one synth, and a drummer. This always led to crowded stages, and easily led to crowded mixes. Working with MG over the years taught me a lot about both layering different timbres together and separating similar timbres apart.

I played rhythm guitar in Mhostly Ghostly for a number of years. This song was always the highlight of our set, and a real crowd pleaser.
